Engaging with local communities at sites that are being restored is essential, as ultimately the site will be returned to them. For nuclear sites in the UK, one aspect of this is undertaken through “End State” consultation, which is reviewed every five years.
Quintessa was involved in the initial consultation work at several sites, supporting the site’s technical and communications teams. Engagement on interim management strategies in lieu of final restoration is also key. We have developed structured processes for looking at restoration options and understanding what is important to a broad range of stakeholders. We have also produced non-technical summaries of key information such as the pattern of contamination, associated risks, and the engineering options that can be applied to deal with the situation.
