New Guidance on Nuclear and Defence Sites

In June 2006 the SAFEGROUNDS Learning Network began a major project to produce a new suite of guidance documents on the management of contaminated land on nuclear and defence sites. These will take into account experience as well as technical, regulatory and organisational developments.

 The documents include:

  • Version 2 of the main guidance for the management of contaminated land on nuclear and defence sites;
  • Version 2 of the guidance for site characterisation;
  • NEW guide to the comparison of land management options; and
  • NEW citizens' guide to the management of contaminated land on nuclear and defence sites.

Enviros is managing the project to develop the new guidance under contract to CIRIA, the SAFEGROUNDS Learning Network managers. Quintessa (James Penfold) is leading the development of the new options comparison document. Faulkland Associates (David Collier) is developing the new citizen's guide. All are contributing to the revision of the main guidance.

Comments are now invited on the first full draft of the main guidance, options comparison guide and citizen's guide. All can be downloaded from the SAFEGROUNDS website and the consultation is open until 24 October 2007.
