Shallow (10s to 200 m) geological disposal facilities for particular nuclear wastes have been developed in a number of countries (e.g. SFR in Sweden) and are under active consideration elsewhere.
Quintessa has developed a White Paper, which discusses the benefits of disposing of selected wastes in Shallow Geological Disposal facilities by considering the:
- drivers and international experience;
- potentially suitable waste types;
- disposal concepts;
- strategic options;
- safety case; and
- business case.
