To ensure that waste management strategies are optimised at the site level, and indeed at regional and/or national levels where appropriate, it is important than an effective approach to strategy integration is pursued. This ensures that commonalities in waste treatment requirements are identified, and opportunities for integration exploited. An effective approach to generating integrated waste strategies can potentially increase opportunities for effective waste treatment, reduce impacts to the environment, and minimise overall costs.
Quintessa employees and associates have contributed to the development of Integrated Waste Strategies for a range of UK nuclear licensed sites. We have also supported NDA directly in identifying opportunities across its waste management portfolio, for example through the ‘Upstream Optioneering’ programme. In addition, Quintessa supported an Environment Agency review of the NDA Integrated Waste Strategy approach in terms of the support the process provides to effective regulation.
