Within the UK the primary vehicle for demonstrating optimisation in the context of radioactive waste management is through performing a Best Available Techniques (BAT) study. Quintessa has significant experience of designing and running BAT processes for a wide variety of wastes, and has contributed to regulatory and best-practice guidance on strategic options assessments.
Quintessa has played a leading role in options assessments and optimisation studies for the design of radioactive waste repositories, the treatment of sludge wastes for legacy facilities, the management diverse sets of hazardous decommissioning wastes, and the development of regulatory guidance on the assessment of BPEO (now BAT).
