On Friday 21ˢᵗ May, Quintessa employees came together to recognise and celebrate the World Day for Cultural Diversity, as recognised by the UN.
Prior to the day itself, employees were invited to contribute to a list of films, TV programmes and other media that address issues surrounding diversity with the aim of producing a list of resources from which they could gain a richer knowledge and understanding of the subject.
On the day we watched a TED Talk: Leah Black – A New Perspective on How and Why to Embrace Cultural Diversity, which, alongside results from a Harvard study of implicit biases, prompted an insightful and engaging discussion. We exchanged our own experiences of various forms of discrimination. These discussions also included a focus on what Quintessa has done and is currently doing to promote and celebrate diversity and what we could do moving forwards, especially in light of our policy of supporting equal opportunities and opposing all forms of unfair or unlawful discrimination. One result of this was the plan to hold monthly lunchtime discussion sessions to share resources, experiences, and ideas for celebrating diversity in all its forms.
