Fellowship Visit by Thana Karupiah of MINT

Quintessa was pleased to host Thana Karupiah of the Malaysian Institute for Nuclear Technology Research (MINT) for a one month fellowship in the summer at the Henley-on-Thames office.

The purpose of the fellowship, which was supported by the IAEA and British Council, was to learn about the process of assessing the safety of near-surface disposal facilities for low and intermediate level radioactive waste. In particular, Thana received training and support in the application of the AMBER contaminant modelling software to assessing the features, events and processes relevant to disposal concepts in Malaysia on the time scales of relevance to radioactive waste. Thana gained experience in applying internationally recommended tools and approaches for each stage of the safety assessment process, which she hopes to share with her colleagues at MINT.
