Within the BIOPROTA international cooperation framework, Laura Limer, Graham Smith and Mike Thorne are involved in the chlorine-36 working group, playing a key role in the group's recent study: "Cl-36 Phase 2: Dose Assessment Uncertainties and Variability".
The primary objective of this study was to understand the relative contributions of uncertainties arising from the estimates of concentrations in crops and animal products (the figure shows the concentration of Cl-36 in crops (Bq kg-1 fresh weight) based upon a unit concentration of Cl-36 in the irrigation water), from assumptions about the characteristics of representative persons (consumption, autarky) and from the application of alternative approaches to specifying dose coefficients.
